FOREST HOUSE

Tree House is a country retreat nestled within the natural beauty of Peñitas Reserve, a sustainable countryside development located in Valle de Bravo, Mexico.
Spanning nearly 200 hectares of restored forest, the Reserve offers a range of activities that immerse inhabitants in nature and it’s home to a diverse array of flora and fauna across its forest and grassland landscapes.

To respect the vegetation and promote a connection with NATURE while maintaining a dry and thermally efficient interior the house is elevated on stilts and its design features varying levels, terraces, and volumes that harmoniously spread out in the site.

The different heights, terraces, sliding doors and openings generate spaces where the limits between interior and exterior are blurred and the lush greenery around is authentically incorporated.

The house is divided in THREE AREAS: the main one is where all the common and shared functions are located and it’s directly connected to the master bedroom.

Close by, but with their privacy and independence, there are two bedrooms for the daughters of the owner and their guests.

Finally, nearby the lake, there is a pavilion with a clay workshop and a generous portico where yoga and other activities can take place.

The house is designed to effectively address BIOCLIMATIC CONCERNS. The green roofs collect rainwater, which is stored in a lake and used to irrigate the surrounding vegetation.

Heating requirements are minimized through efficient thermal insulation provided by double-layered walls, thick green roofs, and the elevation of the structure on stilts.
The abundant wood available on the site is used to fuel the house’s fireplaces.
