Sukhopolova is a small village 150km East of the capital Kyiv in the Chernihiv Oblast. The new sports center, that will replace an existing facility in unsatisfactory conditions, aims to became a LANDMARK for the village and a MEETING POINT not only for the athletes but  for the ENTIRE COMMUNITY.

The project starts from the request of having some sports fields and track embracing additional functions to create a CIVIC CENTER.

The complex hosts a football field, an athletic track, a volley ball and basketball field, an extra outdoor sports court, an indoor training room, a playground, a library and a café open to the public.

The building enfolds the athletic track following its sinuous forms. On the ground floor, in one of the long sides, there are the changing rooms and an indoor training room. On the second floor, accessible through a gentle ramp that envelops the volleyball court, there are the stands, hosting up to 1000 people and with a VIP box.

At ground level, a generous portico connects the café and the library to the playground, allowing people to gather in a covered space while watching people training and kids playing.

The other long and short side of the football field are demarcated by a GREEN DUNE that, besides giving a clear natural limit, can host more spectators.

A BIOCLIMATIC TOTEM marks the entrance of the stadium. This iconic recycled metal structure works as a true bioclimatic machine hosting several elements: rainwater collection tanks, photovoltaic panels, wind turbines, geothermal system and vegetation.

The entire structure is wrapped in a METAL MESH that, besides guaranteeing safety for the users of the sport court, collects the frost that will melt during the day. The water produced will be collected and used to sprinkle the vegetation in the new patios.

In front of the bioclimatic totem there is a PUBLIC SQUARE that can be used for public events from the entire community: for example movie nights using the structure of the totem as a projection screen, markets, rallies, etc.

The main materials used for the complex are concrete, glass, recycled metal and metal meshes that will reassure safety while creating EPHEMERAL BARRIERS.

The goal of the project is to create a REFERENCE POINT FOR THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY so FULL ACCESSIBILITY is a key element and is guaranteed in all the different areas thanks to gentle ramps.
